So what's this Posterous thing, anyway?

Ask Mitch McConnell to Accept Lieberman Into GOP Caucus

Independent Senator Joe Lieberman from Connecticut has been a faithful supporter of John McCain throughout the Presidential campaign, because he put the needs of his Country over partisan politics. Senate Majority Leader (and Democrat) Harry Reid, angered by Senator Lieberman's support of John McCain, has threatened to throw Lieberman out of the Democrat caucus and strip him of his committee chairmanships.

Senator Lieberman is in talks with Senate Minority Leader (and Republican) Mitch McConnell about joining the Republican caucus in the Senate. This would reduce the lead the Democrats have in the Senate, as well as reward Senator Lieberman for standing up for his country in support of John McCain.

Call, write, or email (or better yet, do all three) Senator McConnell and ask him to accept Senator Lieberman into the Republican caucus!

McCain Wins!

I don't care how you slice it, McCain took Obama to school tonight in the first Presidential debate. McCain dominated while Obama was constantly on the defense, stammering, as usual, and sometimes appeared to be trying to run out the clock.

The Debate Is On

The debate is on, and I make one prediction: unless the moderators are predisposed to making Obama look good and making Senator McCain look bad (which has proved to be the case throughout most of this campaign), Obama will come out of this wishing that he had agreed to postpone the debate.

Tune in this evening at 9 pm Eastern Time, because apparently this is the most important even facing the nation today.

Subdivisions, Covenants, and Politics

It's amazing how in this election cycle, we see politics in literally everything. I am currently engaged in a heated battle with my Homeowner's Association over the removal of some Mitch Daniels for Governor signs from my yard. More specifically, I'm in a heated battle with the President of my Homeowner's Association over the issue. The rest of the board hasn't been involved yet, other than receiving her forwarded emails.

I will address the issue formally at the next Homeowner's meeting, which I believe is scheduled for next week. I have decided to make it my personal mission to get onto this board, force the prima donnas off of it, and start doing what's best for the community.

I'll expand more on the issue this evening. Stay tuned.....

Google Chrome Observations

More on Google's new entry into the browser market, Google Chrome . I've been using Chrome since it's release date, and am trying to use it exclusively for the first week to give it a real chance. If I can run it through the gamut of a blogger / podcaster and come out satisfied, then I'll call it a winner.

In the last article in this series, I mentioned some of my favorite features of Google Chrome. Today, I'll share some of the downfalls I have noticed with Google Chrome. Through all of this, I remind myself that Google Chrome is currently in Beta release, and the purpose of even using it is to test it and help make it work better.

On a couple of occasions I have noticed that I have no audio while viewing Flash video such as YouTube videos in Google Chrome. This struck me as odd, since both YouTube and Google Chrome are Google products, and you would think they had thoroughly tested them together. Though I haven't been able to determine what the cause of the problem is, I have found a couple of ways to fix it. The simplest, of course, is to close the browser and restart it (I haven't yet tried to use Google Chrome's built-in Task Manager, which may have solved the problem without a complete restart of the browser). As I have Chrome set to launch with the same pages open that I closed with, this doesn't cause an issue for me of losing what I was viewing. Another method that has appeared to work is right clicking (this works on some Flash video, but not all) in the Flash window and selecting settings. I didn't actually have to change any settings, just the process of loading the settings window, clicking OK, and restarting the video has restored the sound for me (again, in some instances only).

RSS Reading is virtually impossible. In Firefox, you can click an RSS link and the page will load in a viewable format. Firefox does an excellent job of rendering RSS into a readable format. Google does nothing. Without using some other RSS Reader, such as Google Reader , it is impossible to make any sense of RSS Feeds in Chrome. The biggest problem with using Google Reader is that there is no easy way to subscribe to an RSS Feed (yet) in Google Chrome, other than copy and paste. This, I'm sure, will soon be fixed as well.

After resuming my laptop from sleep mode, it appears to take longer for Gmail to refresh the Inbox in Google Chrome than in other browsers. This is only a minor inconvenience and can easily be overcome by clicking the Inbox link.

It appears that when I installed Google Chrome, Google Gears was also installed. I don't recall being asked if I wanted to install Gears, and I don't believe I have installed it on the computer in the past. I will say that this only appears to be the case, until I run a test install on another computer. I don't know if this is a bad thing or not. Some might consider it a negative when software is installed on their computer without their knowledge (which, again, I am not sure is the case). I have started using Google Gears since this install, and will cover my experience with that in another installment in this series.

As a Firefox 3 user, I love the add-ons of Firefox. They don't (yet) exist in Google Chrome, but Google is said to be working on it. Since there are several add-ons I use in Firefox, I will cover that in the next installment in this series, including the work arounds I have found for several of them in Google Chrome.

So far, I'm basically please with Google Chrome. It has some work to do, and I have more to run it through. I'll be back soon with more on add-on work arounds and Google Gears, and whatever else I uncover in the mean time. Send me your feedback and thoughts using the email or comments links below.

America's Mayor SLAMS Obama at RNC08

In a fire-and-brimstone type speech, Rudy Giuliani took on Obama at the Republican National Convention and tore him to shreds. With very detailed facts about Obama and McCain, Rudy showed how Obama is clearly not ready to lead. Rudy pulled no punches delivering the harshest criticism we have seen of Barack Obama to date. This type of criticism would clearly not have been seen in the Main Stream Media if it were not coming out in such a forum as the RNC.

Video when it is available.

Fred Thompson on John McCain

I've never heard a biography of John McCain put so eloquently. If that isn't the story of an American hero, then there are none.

Fred Thompson opens Day Two of the GOP Convention like no one else could.

Epiphany

I'm watching, for the second time, the Saddleback Civil Forum on Fox News. I have just come to a realization that I guess I knew all along, but never knew it in so many words. I realized that Barack Obama, like most politicians of any party, says what he needs to say to be politically popular in the moment. He has never actually clearly told us what he believes or where he stands on any issue without his own built in contradictions.

In contrast, Senator John McCain has always said what he believes and where he stands, whether his stance is the popular one or not. He is for stem cell research while his party is not. He is opposed to a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, but has clearly stated under what conditions he would decide to support one.

Calling John McCain a maverick is not just a label -- it's a fact. John McCain is a principled man who stands upon his principles, clearly defines his principles, and is man enough to change his mind when changes in the world make it prudent.

Open your eyes, America, and see the real picture. There is no other choice for the White House than John McCain!

Episode Eighty-Four: FIRE by STRIVE

Free MP3 Download

STRIVE's newest album, FIRE, hits the streets on August 26, 2008. The record label has asked me to review the album, and given me permission to use the music on the show. I've featured tunes from STRIVE in past episodes of The Joe Show, and for the last week my iPod has been playing nothing but FIRE over and over. In episode 84, I share with you my favorite tunes from the album, and some thoughts on those tunes and the album as a whole.

Sit back and relax. You're about to enjoy a half hour of some awesome music!

SMALLEST THINGS

STRIVE's latest album, FIRE, opens with an uptempo ditty about sharing the simplest, most beautiful things in life with others, rather than falling into the temptation to take such beauties for granted. With an infectious rhythm and memorable lyrics, SMALLEST THINGS -- receiving radio airplay in 55 countires -- will quickly get you up and moving to the beat.

ON OUR WAY

We're on our way
we can help each other all the way

A catchy tune inspired by Africa's struggle with the effects of Imperialism. An enjoyable listen.

JUST A LITTLE MORE TIME NOW [NOTHING'S IMPOSSIBLE]

Just a little more time now
and all of heavens stars will align. ...
So many work their whole lives
for this one moment in time. ...

"Nothing is impossible if I hold onto hope, faith, love & patience." That's the theme behind STRIVE's tune, JUST A LITTLE MORE TIME NOW. We spend our lives waiting for our ship to come in, hoping for our big break. It's become, for some, what life is all about. And it can be so hard sometimes to wait that we see people every day turning to some kind of get rich quick scheme, whether it's the lottery, crime, or such silliness as American Idol. But with just a little hard work, determination, and patience, we can achieve our goals and see our dreams fulfilled. STRIVE has learned that personally as the band has toured extensively, both in the Midwest around their Chicago home base and internationally with extended tours in Brazil and Russia, long before recently being signed to their first record deal with GoDigital records. With music like that on the album FIRE, the band is sure to continue riding their hard won success.

BELLS TOLL

Listen as the bells toll on.
Can you hear them sing their songs.
This dirge of sadness.
All the ones who passed before,
Gave it all to hear no more,
This dirge of sadness.

One of the most heated topics in the Presidential campaign this year is the involvement of American troops in Iraq. War happens. Throughout American history, war has reared it's ugly head from time to time, as if the very process of engaging in the act of trying to kill one another is inevitable. Whatever your view on war -- and more specifically the war in Iraq -- it is not a happy occasion worthy of celebration. People fight. People die. And they do it in hopes that more people will live -- and live a better life -- for their sacrifice. No matter what you think of war, "no argument erases the horror which leaves mothers, fathers, wives, husbands and children mourning for all that they have lost. Peace can only come if everyone lays their burdens of fear down to embrace love and forgiveness." BELLS TOLL is STRIVE's attempt to "ring out with this truth in an effort to hasten the day when it is our reality."

AWAY FROM HERE

With a little time away from here
Can we find a way through the tears
To come back with some more love
Than we left with?
Life's too short to waste on love
that keeps a record of wrongs.

STRIVE's mission of putting out upbeat, positive, inspiring music is played out beautifully in this tune about a couple that, after some heated arguing and a time of unwanted separation, chose to look for a way to grow their love into something greater rather than to give up on it. The band describes the song as "a plea for everyone to guard their tongues and liberate their love for one another."

STRIVE bills themselves as a piano-driven rock pop band aimed at inspiring people across all walks of life. Much of the album FIRE was inspired by front man Derick Thompson's relationship with his wife. Thompson began playing piano and writing songs at the age of eleven, and played in a number of bands both in the US and during his five years living in Russia. Thompson formed the band STRIVE after moving to Chicago to attend Wheaton College.

With band members Will Puth on Guitars and Rick Kluckow on Bass, Thompson and STRIVE create a sound and a message that is much greater than the sum of it's parts. This album is a must-own for every independent music fan as well as anyone with a passion for music you can feel. The more I listen, the more I want to hear.

FIRE

We've been waiting.
Turn the lights down low
It's time to let yourself go
I promise we'll take it nice and slow now
Let yourself be known
Share the secrets of your soul with me
Fire blazing from your skin
How overwhelming it is to love you.

Lead singer / songwriter Derick Thompson describes the title track as the most controversial song he's ever written, while at the same time the purest and most romantic love song he's ever written. "It's a celebration of the love, pleasure and intimacy a man and wife were created to share. Our culture paints great sex as happening with strangers, boyfriends & girlfriends. ... [C]ulture needs the opposite message which says great sex takes place in the context of a committed marriage. ... FIRE is meant to inspire young people to wait and first taste sex in marriage. FIRE is meant to remind married couples that sex keeps a marriage alive and strong. FIRE is meant to glorify the Creator who lovingly gave the human race such an intimate language of love."

I could not be more enthusiastic in my recommendation of this album. Music like this comes along only once in a very great while. Miss out on this one, and who knows when your next chance will come!
